January 2008

We are now four days into the New Year. I am back at our Kalitta Motorsports shop in Michigan. The whole team got back this week as well. It seems like we have had more snow this year than the previous years I have been here. This will be my third winter living in Michigan. I’m actually getting used to it. It’s kind of pretty outside. I took a picture of the condo area where I live.

Over the holidays, everyone on our team had about two weeks off. I spent most of that time in California with my family. I grew up in the Eureka area which is about a five hour drive North of San Francisco. As soon as I got back, we got hit with a snow storm. When I was in California, it wasn’t exactly warm. I didn’t even see the sun for a whole week. It’s usually dark, gray, and rainy.

The best part about going home is spending time with family. I always go Christmas shopping with my Dad, my sister, Kim, my sister, Jessica, my brother, Austin, and my other brother, Kevin. It’s an annual tradition that I always look forward to. Sometimes it’s pretty chaotic as we all try to full fill our own agendas and cross things off our shopping lists. We always go to this nice Irish store to get a warm sweater for my Dad’s wife, Chris. We made a grand entrance as we all walked in the door and knocked over a big display. Then we were trying on hats and taking photos. The ladies in the store were stressing out a bit but we were having fun. My Dad ended up buying a sweater just to make up for how annoying we all were.

Once of my Dad’s Christmas was a picture from all of us. While we were shopping Kim, Jessica, Austin, Kevin, and tracked down Santa and made him pose with us. Then we framed the photo and gave it to our Dad.

I spent Christmas Eve at the home of my cousin Jason and his wife, Trina. My grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins were all there. By my unofficial count, there were about 30 of us, which is one more than last year. My cousin Michelle and her husband, Josh, had their second son. His name is Jaxson. I didn’t get any good pictures of the new baby. I did get a picture of all my girl sisters and cousins. We had fun on Christmas Eve. We ate some good food, did a lot of laughing, and did a gift exchange.

While I was at home, I made a stop at Big Louie’s Pizza in Eureka. It’s where I used to go to watch the races with my friends and family. Or we would stop there after a long day of bracket racing at Samoa Dragstrip. They have a great pizza and a fun atmosphere. Harold is the owner and he is really into supporting racing. He helps out the local racers as much as he can. I’m really thankful for his support. I got his picture when I stopped by.

Now I’m back in Michigan and counting down the days until I can get back in my dragster. I was really glad for some time off but now I’m ready to get back to the race track. I am hungrier than ever to do some winning…a lot of winning. We still have a lot to do before we leave for testing. I’ll check back in soon.
